Defaced! Money, Conflict, Protest
Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge
A new exhibition examining the interplay between money, power and dissent over the past 250 years.
Featuring money that has been punched, scratched and manipulated by campaigners to address issues of social, political and racial injustice, as well as art from kennardphillipps, Banksy and JSG Boggs, the objects are shown to be material symbols of real-world struggles.
Working alongside exhibition designers RFK Architects, Tom Piper and museum curators, Beam designed and installed multiple display cases, large format displays and intricate set lighting. With a challenging installation schedule, we had to work at pace to ensure the exhibition was lit with care and precision. Many of the objects were less than 1cm in size but with fine engravings, meaning the lighting had to be expertly placed. The show is on until Jan 8th 2023
